MICHELE R.SOUTHERLAND

Michele is a resident of Surprise, AZ.  Prior to 2015, she was a resident of Oxnard, CA when her parents, Terry and Wanda Dziuk, moved there in the early 1960's.  She attended local schools including Ventura and Oxnard College, studying music under the baton of Dr. E. Burns Taft and business.  She began singing in her home church as a child and performed regularly with her parents, and was introduced to handbells in the 1970’s.  She has participated in or led a variety of worship services and community sing-a-longs.  Additionally, Michele directed and performed in the Penny Wolcott "Star Spangled" productions in Port Hueneme, CA.  She directed children, youth and adult vocal and handbell choirs while the Director of Traditional Worship at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Hueneme, and taught a comprehensive school-wide music program at a local elementary school.  During the early 2000’s she received vocal instruction from Linda Ottsen and participated in the Master Chorale of Ventura County providing leadership within her section.  In 2011, the Pacific Shores Philharmonic Foundation was formed when it became apparent that the Master Chorale would no longer be supported by the college district. She performed with El Coro Maestro (Master Chorale) and was the founding board treasurer. Since retiring and moving to Arizona in January 2015, Michele has performed with ProMusica AZ, Women in Song, in the 2016 West Valley Chorale production of the “Verdi Requiem” at Symphony Hall with Grand Canyon University, and rings with the Handbell Ringers of Sun City.  Additionally, she is the Music  Director at Grace Community Church in Surprise.  During 2020, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, she became the churches media manager, coordinating and directing a variety of videos for continued church outreach and communication. Additionally, she organizes our Fall-to-Spring Concert Series of local bands and performers from the area.  Michele has been married to her husband, Eural, for 45 years and they have two sons, Patrick, a luthier for Tom Anderson Guitarworks in Newbury Park, CA, and Michael, who currently drives for FedEx out of Rapid City, SD, after a 8 year commitment with the USMC.  They are the proud grandparents of two amazing grandsons.
